Color Capture App Reviews

Terribly limited

I found a color I love, Gemtle Gray. So, I look for palettes that would look good with GG. You give only five. And, four of the five all have orange. Theres no way to remove that to ask for more blues or greens. Plus, five combos is all your tech will come up with? Not worth the time!

Its good

I like it and I have good benefits really I love it

P

I liked finding the color matches, but how do I save them?

Sad user

Cannot save photos. When I saved to favorites it overwrote previous picture. When I reopened that pic it did not have color selections or home button. Had to close and reopen. Yesterday it kept all pictures but they are gone. Forced me to OK camera roll. Now that iSync only option but does not give color selections when I open a pix from the camera roll? What happened. Tried reloading app but problems remained.

Amazing!

This app is amazing! I love it! It is so helpful.

this can not work

This app can not work correctly - every consumer camera does an automatic white balance which wills significantly change the color. It would work if the user would hold a reference color chart or a white piece of paper on the same picture for the software to get the correct white balance.

Love it

Fun and useful app. I only wish the color capture photos were automatically stored in my photo library.

Professional mixer

Just for clarification, I have an iPhone 4S and Ive been working in Benjamin Moore dealers off and on for 15 years. I match and correct colors by eye. The technology Behind this app is awesome. I love seeing all the color collections in one place, and I definitely appreciate what they were trying to do with the pocket spectrometer on the phone. However, on my phone at least, the colors wind up being far too brown. My immediate thought was that it was my phone – or my camera. However, when I first see the picture it looks true to life, more or less. Then, when I tell The app that I do want to use that image, it collects the image and turns it browner. See if yours does the same thing – watch it change when you say yes to the image. Its not exactly a small change, either, when light slate blue becomes light taupe. That shift – at least on my phone – turns the colors and often eliminates those that are really options. So what can be done? Maybe some kind of calibration option? Maybe a reset/update? As I said, maybe its my phone, but Id love to hear others thoughts.

Helped me decide

I couldnt decide what color I wanted to paint my house exterior... I found a pic online of a house I really liked and was able to match the colors perfectly!!! Great app!

Good with a fix and some enhancements

Overall I like this app very much. Fixes needed: 1. There are errors in how the palettes render. I get different answers for matching color on mobile versus the full website. Sometimes you cannot swipe to the fifth choice or choices repeat. 2. Also, when I save palettes into favorites, they sometimes shift especially if saving from one favorite group to another. Its almost like the wrong palette record ID gets stored. You revisit what is in your favorites and get random palettes you never stored there while the ones you did store are gone. Enhancements: 1. Ability to store more than 5 colors or palettes in a favorite group 2. Support for iPad 3. More choices for colors that go along with a selected color. Both in terms of number of palettes to consider and number of colors on the palette. I am looking for 4-5 colors per palette for wall, accent, ceiling, and trim. 4. Some sort of option slider to increase saturation when matching photos. The default matching chooses a lot of grays. 5. A way to fill out the remaining 2-4 colors of a 4-5 color palette given 2+ colors I choose. I also need filter selection boxes to narrow my choices to a particular collection. For example, I only want to use Color Stories because they are full-spectrum 6. Some sort of backwards compatibility in color selection. So, if I choose "chateau" and the palette says "stoneware" is a complementary color, then I can go to "stoneware" and see that "chateau" is a complementary color. How I try to use this app: 1. Take photos of all the things in my house that I cannot change like floor and wall tile, countertops, and wood in cabinets and floors. Find matching colors and favorite them. (see where larger favorite groups would help?). 2. Find colors that complement the matched colors. In other words, favorite the palettes where the main color is from #1 and derive a list of accent paint colors that complement the things in my house I cannot change. 3. The accent colors from #2 are now my candidates for wall color. Next I need palette choices for these colors. Ideally, I would have some palettes with similar tones but different colors. These would become my master palette with the complementary colors becoming the wall colors for adjoining rooms. 4. Then I need more palettes for each of the wall colors that I have chosen in step 3. I need colors for the accent, ceiling, and trim for my given wall color. 5. Narrow-down the lists from 3 and 4 to find common colors. That way, hopefully, I can carry the same trim color throughout the house and only a small number of ceiling colors.

Great app

Very helpful, nice features, easy to use

Great app for paint selection!

Love this app! There are additional features I would like to see but nothing major. Love it!

Best Paint App

By far my favorite, go-to painting app. So easy to navigate & save your favorite colors. Just wish you could change out the complimentary colors instead of getting stuck using the default options. Thats just me being picky though. Thanks Benjamin Moore for always having quality products!

Makes so much Sense

Great to match new colors or find existing ones to match your walls when touch up needed. Great app.

Good in Theory

The intended functionality is a fantastic tool, however, the colors are not true. The colors are much darker in reality than how they are presented in the app or online (I would think they use the same assets.) I cross referenced the colors in the app to the swatches in store, and they were very different. The final paint on walls was much closer to the physical swatch than the colors in the app. I even tried to adjust my brightness / contrast levels to match the colors in order to be able to use the app, but it wasnt just a matter of the colors being xx percentage darker. Theoretically great, but basically useless since the colors arent true. I also tried repeatedly to do a color match using the functionality, but the camera in the phone wouldnt capture a true representation of the color, even with adjustments in exposure and white balance so... basically useless. Great in theory though. I wish the colors were a better match. If they were this would be a great tool.

Best app ever

This is a really good app if you are a painter that doesnt know the exact name of a color.

captury color

very good

Stop bothering me.

One star for annoying me with a prompt to review your app.

Great App but needs features

I love this app but I never use it for the intended purpose of trusting the iPhone camera to accurately pick up a color from a photo or to trust the screen to display it like a calibrated monitor does. Big however though.... I LOVE being able to rifle through the various colors and I like how it displays compatible colors. But the number one reason I use this app is to add colors to favorites for each of the rooms in our house. I have all of them entered and can easily pick up more then a room needs a touch up or repainting. But the feature thanks sorely missing is one to allow us to add custom colors and name them. So instead of having to remember OY16 BK18 TG4 I could just call it Kitchen Blue.

Fun tool

Dont know about color accuracy but this is a very useful tool to get your palette in the right color range. Eye dropper tool is super.
